Colombia opened its door to the Congregation of our Lady of
charity of the Good Shepherd (lovely named by Colombians as
COMMUNITY OF GOOD SHEPHERD) as well as other congregations during
the last decade of XIX century. In 1890, the first six sisters
arrived to the capital.
Nine years later its meritorious work to help women with “irregular
behavior” was well known and wished for, in all the country
that wanted ours services. As time passed by, the Community
of The Good Shepherd pastoral action was focused in: women in
some difficulties, women prisoners, prisons management, reeducation
centers, protection shelters and elementary schools for poor
girls.
Once founded, the community began to walk into an opening to
new gospel, applying the experience the sisters had acquired
along our life’s history. THE CONGREGATION OF OUR LADY
OF CHARITY OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, NGO (with counseling status
of ECOSOC United Nation in order to make possible the institutional
improvement and to consolidate the pastoral and social work),
which had been developing by itself in different local agencies
in the Province of Medellín through different foundations,
decided to set up one unique nationwide foundation with international
vision that could meet together all the services and social
work in an integrated technical, administrative, operative and
financial frame.
It was how THE GOOD SHEPHERD FOUNDATION (GSF) was set up being
registered with number 21-007119-22 in The Chamber of Commerce
of Medellín in May 06 of 2003 and I.D. number (Nit) 811039124-6;
and our Main office is located in: Carrera 76 No 19-47 Medellín-
Colombia South America.
